Work Experience

Shandong University, Virginia Tech: National Science Foundation International Research Experiences for Students (NSF IRES)

3D Artist

Traveled to Shandong University in Jinan, China to collaborate with other students researching bats. I created a 3D model of Hipposideros armiger (Great Himalayan Leaf-nosed Bat) that could be used to show data collected of the bats' wing motion in flight as well as movements of the ears and noseleaf. To create the model, I began with photogrammetry using RealityCapture of a specimen's head and body in order to have a scientifically accurate base, which I then cleaned up in Maya and ZBrush and sculpted further on as well as retopologized. The outcome was a textured, detailed full body model of the species that could be rigged and animated to visualize data.

2017 - 2018

Virginia Tech Honor's College

Filmed and edited videos about Honors students and their experiences with the Honors College at Virginia Tech. My roles included meeting and talking with the students, setting up the camera and microphone, capturing footage of the students, editing the footage together in After Effects, and rendering the footage to be posted on the Honors College's website and on social media.

3D Artist

Research project for Facebook creating game ready assets for a virtual reality space. I worked on retopology of scanned models of objects. My roles included taking the models created from the scanned data, bringing them into ZBrush and Maya to fix the topology, texture, normals, and UV map to create realistic low poly objects.

2016 - 2017

Virginia Tech Nuclear Engineering Program

3D Modeler

Research project to visualize a room containing a spent fuel pool for use in web browsers. I referenced images of such rooms to model and texture the room within Maya. The model was used for an interactive experience where users could move the nuclear fuel rods.

Blacksburg 16 Squares

3D Modeler

Virginia Tech research project recreating historic Blacksburg, Virginia's original 16 squares as an online resource and on-site augmented reality and virtual reality experience. I took photos of the buildings and modeled them in Maya using the photo references. The models I created were then 3D printed to be used in the physical version of the project. This project was presented in Washington DC's National Museum of American History as a part of ACCelerate (ACC Smithsonian Creativity and Innovation Festival) on October 13-15, 2017.

Virginia Tech 2018 Summer Research Symposium, Goodwin Hall, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA

Presented my work done in China as part of the NSF IRES program in a poster format. I created a scientifically accurate model of the Hipposideros armiger bat that could be animated to visualize collected data.

SOVA Senior Show, Moss Arts Center, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA (group exhibit)

Exhibited select pieces from my Senior Studio Exhibition The Beasts of Illusao along with select pieces from the Senior Studio Exhibitions of other students in my graduating class at Virginia Tech.

Laser, Mish Mish, Blacksburg, VA (group exhibit)

Exhibited a series of laser cut pieces painted with acrylic, demon heads inspired by various cultures around the world, along with the laser cut work of other students at Virginia Tech.

The Beasts of Illusao, Senior Studio Exhibition, Armory Gallery, School of Visual Arts at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA

Exhibited a solo project created over the course of my undergraduate senior year at Virginia Tech. This project featured framed pieces created with ballpoint pen, watercolor, and acrylic, a printed field guide created with illustrations done in Photoshop, written text, a layout done in InDesign, and a laser engraved cover, as well as two pieces contained in shadowboxes created with ballpoint pen and gouache. This project focused around an original world and the creatures that live within it.

ACCelerate (ACC Smithsonian Creativity and Innovation Festival), National Museum of American History, Washington DC

Work done on the Blacksburg 16 Squares research project was presented as 3D printed models.

Virginia Tech 2016 Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship Conference, Wallace Gallery, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA (group exhibit)

Exhibited the Monster Maker I created using illustration in Photoshop and coding in Processing.

Global Game Jam

Worked on a small point and click game with two other students. I created the illustrations of the backgrounds and objects found in the game.

Tech-or-Treat, Moss Arts Center, Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA (group exhibit)

Exhibited the Monster Maker I created using illustration in Photoshop and coding in Processing as well as a creature head modeled in clay that had a 3D modeled version viewable in augmented reality.
